Writer vs Blogger

As most of you know, I'm not really a writer. I know I'm not, and I'm not posing as such. As a few real writers have recently rather eloquently referred to me as "a blogger" or depending on the site it's published on, "hubber", which, i'm assuming, in real writer language means a fake, a four flusher, a bum, a miscreant, a ta-rah-rah-goon-de-yay. I'm quite alright with this. I write errrr blog or Hub for myself. If someone else reads it and learns about something on a subject that I, myself know about, then everyone wins. And I actually got started writing errrr blogging, by accident.

I know my limitations as a writer errrr blogger and can only endeavor to improve the skills needed to paint a picture for a reader. I know that my punctuation might suffer, my word usage is common, my sentence structure needs work and I sometimes jump subjects in mid paragraph. But , I do know this: I've improved since I started less than a year ago. As you know, I read a lot as well. I'm always trying to learn things from my favorite columnists or writers or....bloggers to add to my own personal voice or style and I think, as a writer errr blogger, that it's important to put a bit of myself into whatever it may be that I'm writing about, whether it be taking the trash out while walking the dog or an angry, vitriolic wankpiece.

I like writing here at Hub Pages because of the interaction without the vulgar commentary of a Myspace or the limitations of a Facebook. I also use Helium because that site is chock full of skilled writers and I feel that they have a bit more accuracy in rating when submitting articles there. The 3 readers of my blog will always tell me that they like reading my articles no matter how bad it may be....it's easy to have your mom critique things for you....so when I see my articles errrrrr submissions on Helium being rated in the top 5% of their categories, then I can get a true feel for how good or how bad they may be.

One thing that I have found while reading some of my favorite writers, hubbers and bloggers is this: some of them never fail to keep me reading, no matter what the subject, by their distinct weaving and painting of a tapestry, where others, it's obvious to me that their work has become uninspired and/or lacking depth or feeling. Once again, I'm no writing critic, but I've seen some recent articles lull me to sleep where as I used to hang on every word. I'm sure that I have some bombs that I've published when I didn't care or wasn't inspired too, so maybe it's that the author is writing during an uninspired streak.

Recently, I've delved into the arena of having to research a subject before writing about it. It can be difficult to not let your article sound like a conglomeration of a bunch of previously written articles, but it can be done. I'm currently trying to hone this skill.

"What's the point to this entry" you might ask?

Whether you agree or disagree, the point is this: No matter the writing skill level, whether someone writes for a living, has taken classes for it at a junior college, or just enjoys doing it, I think the critics should concentrate on their own skills before tearing mine apart. At least my heart is evident in my blogging errrr writing....and I don't know about you, but I think it's safe to say that I prefer reading heart over filler any day of the week.
